Lab Technician

Position Summary
Franklin Primary Health Center is seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Lab Technician to join our Laboratory team. Under the supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor, the Lab Technician performs a variety of laboratory, clinical, and clerical duties to support quality patient care. This position is responsible for specimen collection, laboratory testing, quality control, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting of laboratory results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory testing including, but not limited to, HbA1c, Urine Dip, Urine HCG, Glucose, Strep A, PT/INR, and other CLIA-waived tests.
- Perform phlebotomy for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Process specimens and accurately document and report test results.
- Ensure all laboratory results are entered into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Perform quality control, quality assurance, and equipment maintenance procedures.
- Maintain laboratory inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Notify providers of pertinent laboratory results.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Assist with laboratory training, competencies, and CLIA compliance requirements.
- Provide coverage at other Franklin Primary Health Center locations when needed.
- Participate in continuing education and required laboratory training.
- Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Support proficiency testing and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Answer telephone calls professionally and assist patients, providers, and staff.
- Assist with resolving laboratory billing and documentation issues as needed.
- Maintain professionalism while providing excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and all Franklin Primary Health Center policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of an approved Phlebotomy Program, Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program, or Associate’s Degree preferred.
- One (1) or more years of laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy Certification or National Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification preferred.
- Current CPR Certification required.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR), Microsoft Office, and standard laboratory equipment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
